Indonesia to sack Simon McMenemy after 2022 World Cup qualifying match against Vietnam
Indonesian media reported the dismissal will be made no matter what the result of the match against Vietnam will be.
McMenemy is under huge pressure from the public, fans and PSSI members after Refrizal, one of PSSI leaders, advised the Scottish coach to resign.
Indonesia’s CNN reported: “The story between Simon McMenemy and the Indonesia national team will soon go to an end.”
“Indonesian fans’ support for McMenemy fell after the inaugural match of the 2022 World Cup Qualifying round in Asia, where Garuda was defeated 2-3 at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta. Indonesia again suffered an embarrassing defeat in the following matches losing 0-3 to Thailand and 0-5 to the UAE.”
Indonesia media criticize Simon’s British aggressive playstyle and state that former Indonesia coach Luis’s attacking measures are more suitable for Indonesian players.
CNN Indonesia also said that each strategist has his own style but Indonesia’s achievements so far are unacceptable. Indonesia conceded 11 goals and scored only two goals in 3 World Cup qualifying matches.
Besides, Simon prefers senior players who are full of experience to young players.
CNN Indonesia also revealed that PSSI has given Simon one more chance due to tight schedule but the latest loss to the UAE is the last straw. The story between Simon McMenemy and the Indonesia national team is close to an end.
Simon is still the tactical adviser of the Indonesia national team in its match against Vietnam. The Indonesia national team is likely to have a new coach replacing Simon after the new Chairmain of PSSI is elected on November 2nd . When facing Malaysia in the second leg on November 19 within the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers, the Indonesian national team will have a new coach.
