It is likely that the 2022 World Cup qualifier in Asia will have to reschedule after the AFC meeting on 2 March in Malaysia.

With the complicated development of the COVID-19 virus, the Asian Football Federation (AFC) had to have an emergency meeting in Malaysia on March 2 to discuss the plans for the upcoming tournaments.

According to the AFC homepage, all members of East Asia agreed to postpone the next two matches on March 26 and March 31 of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

AFC asked to delay the 2022 World Cup qualifier because of the COVID-19 virus.

However, AFC will wait for the decision of West Asia countries before making a final announcement after the West Asia region will hold a similar meeting tomorrow.

Also according to the homepage of the Asian Football Federation, after receiving a conclusion from the West Asia region, senior AFC officials will meet with FIFA to ask for permission to postpone and change the schedule of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. Therefore, AFC still has to ensure that the second round of the 2022 World Cup qualifying in Asia will be completed in October 2020.

This will be a logical decision of AFC and FIFA at the present time, when COVID-19 virus is showing signs of increasing fear.

The match between Malaysia vs Vietnam will likely be postponed

This will also be good news for Park Hang-seo, as the Korean strategist will have plenty of time to prepare for the upcoming important matches. Especially in the context, he has just received bad news when center-back Duy Manh has to take a long-term leave due to injuries encountered in the National Super Cup 2020 match.

Currently, Vietnam is at the top of Group G with 11 points after 5 matches. Park Hang-seo and his players are having many opportunities for the first time to qualify by winning 7 points in the remaining 3 matches.
