V-League far behind Thai-League in AFC rankings
V-League is far behind Thai League and only ranked 5th in Southeast Asia. In Asia, V-League is placed 22nd , according to the latest information from AFC.
In AFF rankings, V-Leagues follows Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore and Malaysia. These 4 countries are placed 8th, 12th, 16th and 17th respectively in AFC Rankings.
There is no surprise that China is considered the 1st in Asia. Chinese clubs are invested financially, especially blockbuster contracts. Various stars who used to play in Europe, are playing here, including Oscar, Fellaini, Gervinho, Hulk, Lavezzi, Pato, Ramires...
One of reason leading to V-League relegation in AFC rankings, however, is that SLNA, Thanh Hoa, Quang Ninh, and Hanoi failed to earn a ticket to AFC Champions League Qualifiers in 2005, hence, hey had to play in AFC Cup yet no achievements gained.
Meanwhile, Thailand has many clubs entering the highest tournament in club level in Asia. Even Myanmar and the Philippines have some representatives in 16-team round in AFC Cup.
In this season, Binh Duong an Hanoi all failed to qualify for AFC Champions League. However, they are performing well in AFC Cup, especially Hanoi’s 5-2 triumph over Yangon United.
That Hanoi can enter deeper in AFC Cup or lift the championship might help V-league promote in the rankings.
