UAE appoints Pinto's former player new assistant coach of the national team

Mr. Jerry Tamashiro has accepted as an assistant to coach Jorge Luis Pinto in the UAE team, with the goal of reaching the 2022 World Cup finals.

Jerry Tamashiro was once a former player of Coach Pinto when the Colombian coach took over Peru's Allianz Lima Club in 1997. He and his players successfully competed and won the domestic championship. Tamashiro then went to the United States to join the Miami Fusion Club, before returning to Peru in 1999 and playing for Juan Aurich, Deportivo Avación and Deportivo Municipal.

In 2001, Mr. Tamashiro retired from his footballing career and began coaching. For 12 years in the United States, the former Japanese-born player who played for U20 and U23 Peru together with Conquest America and Real Laguna, won some regional championships.

“I am greatful to my coach, Jorge Pinto, who gave me the opportunity to work with him in the UAE technical team, and we will do everything we can to help the team gain the right to attend the 2022 World Cup finals.”, Coach Jerry Tamashiro shared.

The current UAE team consists of four assistants: Eduardo Nino (goal keeper), Gilberto Arenas (physical conditioning manager), Mahmoud Fayez (assistant coach and interpreter) and Jerry Tamashiro (technical assistant).

As expected, coach Pinto will come to Dubai (UAE) on July 19. He will gather 36 players to review the fitness, then set out to train in Austria for 3 weeks, from August 1, before shortening the list to 24 or 25 players preparing for two friendly matches with Jordan and Tajikistan at home on September 4 and September 8.
