What did coach Mai Duc Chung say after losing to Australia?

In the play-off round of the Tokyo Olympic 2020 qualifying round, the Vietnamese women's team competed hard and only lost 1-2 to Australia women. The only scorer for Mai Duc Chung's army was Huynh Nhu.

Coach Mai Duc Chung said: "After the first half, we learned from the experience in the half-time break, the purpose to press the opponents. These have been done well by the players. In particular, they followed rivals well. The strength of the players was also guaranteed in all 90 minutes. In the end of the second half, the opponent played the ball from two sides and We made a good save. We have done well this match.

We lost 0-5 in the first leg but came back to the home team to fulfill the promise with fans  that we determined and scored goals. With the spirit of Vietnamese women, my players have done very well.

I think the home field has given us a chance to score. We had two unfortunate chances. We analyzed and told the players that the opponent is very strong but the defense has weaknesses. The two play-off matches are very useful for Vietnamese women players.

These are 2 very rewarding matches against a strong opponent ranked 7th in the world. Maybe the players have learned a lot of experience from good technique, blocked the ball well, redirected the opponent, we should study to improve more.”

For his part, Australian team coach Ante Milicic said: "We have many opportunities but cannot take advantage of it. This is a long journey to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and I am proud of this. We led 5-0, this match we had a victory to attend the Tokyo Olympic 2020. I want to congratulate the team.

In this match, after conceding, the team's plan was to try not to concede. Of course this is football, everything can happen, we just try our best to keep clean sheets. There were a lot of difficulties, but I'm happy to have won away match and reached the Olympic qualifiers. "​
