Coach Mai Duc Chung: “The whole team has promoted the quality of Vietnamese women”
Coach Mai Duc Chung said that Vietnamese female players overcame difficulties to defeat Myanmar in the opening match at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualifiers.
The Vietnamese women's team opened the qualifying round of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic women's football with a minimum victory of 1-0 against Myanmar. This result is just enough to help the red shirt team to go to the next round. In the press conference after the match, coach Mai Duc Chung seemed satisfied with this result:
“The two teams know each other very well because it is the same area so it is hard to play. In addition, our team is rejuvenating the squad so the coordination is not good. Since focusing until today, the player has shown no interest due to no official match. The whole team missed many opportunities despite scoring and winning.”
But like previous tournaments, Mr. Chung always encouraged the rise of Vietnamese female players in all circumstances. “The entire team promotes the tradition of Vietnamese women: integrity and indomitable. The team's entry (Tokyo Olympic 3rd qualifier) is also a great achievement. The team encountered difficulties due to rejuvenating forces and traditional Tet holiday. However, all have promoted the spirit. Despite missing many opportunities, he finally got the goal to win,” he said.
90 minutes on the field showed the overwhelming efforts of Vietnamese girls. However, it was not until the second half that Vietnam scoreda goal after neutralized opposing players. From a cross on the left wing, Ngan Thi Van Su had the exact position to head to score the only goal of the match.
Explaining this game, coach Mai Duc Chung admitted that the whole team had prepared carefully: 'I told the players that Myanmar played simply, so just stick, push the line up, try try to attack more on the sidelines. The goal also came from a cross-attacking situation.”
Winning against Myanmar helped Vietnam to continue to the next round because the group had only 3 teams. The team will rest a few days before playing the final match against the Korean women on February 9. Although this is one of the great Asian team, coach Mai Duc Chung confirmed that the whole team will try their best:
“Everyone wants to win in football. The match will be difficult because Korea is very strong. But football does not say anything. We will do our best to get the best results.”
