The Southeast Asian Football Federation also expressed its desire that Vietnam will host the draw for the AFF Suzuki Cup 2020 group table. This ceremony is scheduled to be held in August 2020 in Hanoi.

The opponents of the Vietnamese team in the opening match will be Laos or Brunei / East Timor. This is a huge advantage for Vietnam to have its first victory, creating psychological momentum for the difficult games behind.
AFF Suzuki Cup 2020 will have 9 teams going straight to the group stage, the remaining two teams in the region will have to play-off to compete for tickets to the final round East Timor and Brunei. The play-off of the two teams will take place in the form of home-away matches in October 2020.
