Van Lam helplessly watched Muangthong lose the opening match of the Thai League

Muangthong travelledo rookie team BG Pathum United in the first round of Thai League 2020. With the home advantage, the army of coach Dusit Chalermsan pushed the team up, pressing Muangthong right from the first minute.

Van Lam's net was always on alert right in the first minutes. However, the defensive discipline and the certainty of the Vietnamese goalkeeper helped Muangthong United stand.

Muangthong United was awarded a penalty after 38 minutes after reviewing VAR  when identifying BG Pathum's defender touched the ball in the penalty area.

On penalties, Derley successfully put Muangthong ahead 1-0. Four minutes later, Muangthong continued to benefit from VAR. After reviewing the Irfan Fandi's collision situation with Saharat Kanyaroj, the referee showed a red card and sent center-back Ifran out despite the the disagreement the home crowd.

The opening goal can not help Muangthong get more advantage . The unexpected turning point occurred in the 54th minute. The referee watched VAR and booked Sarach Yooyen a yellow card, giving BG Pathum a penalty. Cardozo successfully defeated Van Lam and brought the match to the balance.  The home team BG Pathum seemed to take off mental pressure. BG Pathum had found the goal to increase the score to 2-1 in the 70th minute after Tithiphan's finish.

In the remaining minutes, Muangthong made many changes, searching for goals but failed. The match ended 2-1. In the second round at 7:00PM on February 23, Muangthong United welcome the tough opponent Bangkok United.
