Coach Hoang Anh Tuan: 'Incheon coach was forced to buy Cong Phuong'

In the 2019 season, Cong Phuong unexpectedly switched to wearing Incheon United's shirt on loan. Despite the relatively favorable conditions for playing, the Nghe An-born player does not leave much impression and must soon end the contract to move to Sint-Truidense.

Incheon's coach Jorn Andersen was originally a former player of Jurgen Gede. Mr. Gede had confided to Coach Hoang Anh Tuan about this deal. Sharing with VTC, coach Hoang Anh Tuan quoted Mr. Andersen:

"When they gave me a player (Cong Phuong), it was not the position I wanted to have.”

"Then he also tried very hard to create opportunities for Cong Phuong to play. But not being able to play well, not in line with the coach's philosophy, Cong Phuong could not meet the demand and did not show his ability. And when the team put the common interests of the team first, Cong Phuong has no chance," coach Hoang Anh Tuan continued.

Coach Hoang Anh Tuan commented that the problem does not lie in Cong Phuong's expertise but on the philosophy. Incheon appreciates Cong Phuong, but he didn’t match the tactics of Coach Andersen.

The same is the case with Van Quyet when the player was excellent last season but was not used by Park Hang-seo.

Cong Phuong and Van Quyet are typical examples given by Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan to explain Van Hau's preparation at Heerenveen.

"That is an example to talk about Van Hau. Expertise is not all. It depends on the philosophy and usage of Heerenveen’s coach".

"In terms of professionalism, especially in the position of left-back, there is no second person in Vietnam like Van Hau. But if the team is lacking strikers, how can they use left-back Van Hau?".
