OFFICIAL: World Cup Asia Qualifiers delayed, Vietnam wins advantages

FIFA and AFC have officially announced the postponement of World Cup 2022 qualifiers in Asia.

FIFA and AFC had a meeting yesterday in Zurich, Switzerland and reached an agreement on the reschedule of all remianing qualifiers of World Cup in March and June.

“For both FIFA and the AFC, the well-being and health of all individuals involved in football matches remains the highest priority, and as such, a formal proposal to postpone upcoming matches in the Asian FIFA World Cup 2022 and AFC Asian Cup 2023 qualifiers will now be shared with the relevant member associations.

FIFA and the AFC will provide an update on these fixtures in the coming days following consultation with the AFC member associations.

Other topics of discussion were the women’s Olympic play-off between Korea Republic and China PR, as well as the AFC Futsal Championship Turkmenistan 2020.

FIFA will continue to monitor the situation in relation to COVID-19 in cooperation with the World Health Organisation (WHO), the confederations and the member associations.”

Vietnam vs Malaysia match will be officially delayed, which is a luck for Park, since many pillars of the national team including Duy Manh, Van Hau, Huy Hung and Xuan Truong are injured.

Currently, FIFA and AFC have not given the new match schedule for the World Cup 2022 qulaifiers. However, the 4 remaining matches will be changed as follows:

- March 26, 2020 changed to Oct 8, 2020

- March 31, 2020 changes to October 13, 2020

- June 4, 2020 changes to November 12, 2020

- June 9, 2020 changes to November 17, 2020

Although the 2022 World Cup Qualifier in March has been postponed, Vietnam will still focus on March 21 to prepare for a friendly match against Kyrgyzstan on March 26 at Go Dau Stadium, Binh Duong.
