BREAKING: FIFA requires all players to halve their salary
The World Football Federation (FIFA) is taking measures to reduce risks for the world football due to the Covid-19 pandemic
After more than 3 hours of discussion yesterday afternoon, March 26. FIFA leaders along with officials of the European Club Association (ECA) and the Professional Players Association ( FIFPro) have taken the necessary measures to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic.
FIFA made some important suggestions to build a backup scenario for world football. One of the most discussed measures is that FIFA will offer all players a 50% reduction in income to help reduce the financial burden on the clubs. If approved, this request will be effective immediately.
Regarding the contract, FIFA also proposed that the players’s contract will automatically be extended until the 2020/21 season starts, instead of June 30 as usual. The player transfer market is also considered to last up to 16 weeks to create conditions for the teams to stabilize their forces.
A number of special rules are also in place to ensure the rights of players and clubs in this sensitive time.
