Indonesia coach rates Thailand his strongest opponent at World Cup 2022 qualification

In the recent share, Indonesia national head coach Simon McMenemy made some judgments on his rivals in group G.

Indonesia was drawn into group G at World Cup 2022 qualifiers with ASEAN rivals Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia.

Speaking with the Scottish Mail, Simon McMenemy made some judgments on each rivals, he stated that he was impressed by Thailand performance. “Thailand is the strongest team in ASEAN in many years. They even got new head coach who could lift them up to another level”.

While, Indonesia coach claimed their second strongest rival: “Malaysia is the second rival to us. The battle between two teams will be full of tension and strong. I hope 80,000 Indonesia supporters will come and cheer with us in that special game”.

Regarding Vietnam, they changed his career: “I faced Vietnam in 2010 when I was in charge of The Philippines. That changed my career.”

Earlier, McMenemy once helped the visiting Philippines defeated Vietnam at AFF Cup 2010 the he worked for Vietnam side Long An FC as head coach.

In the next second qualifiers, the 41-year-old claimed not to dream of the ticket for World Cup 2022 finals, but desired a ticket for Asian Cup 2023 which would be a great achievement for Indonesia football. Besides, he also hoped Indonesia reach top 120 in the world. The opening match of Indonesia will be a game against the visiting Malaysia on September 5.
