Coach Philippe Troussier affirmed the goal of U19 Vietnam in AFC U19 Championship 2020 is to win tickets to the U20 World Cup 2021.
At the AFC U19 Championship 2020, the U19 Vietnam team under the guidance of coach Philippe Troussier is in Group C and face U19 Australia, U19 Saudi Arabia and finally U19 Laos.
Speaking recently, coach Philippe Troussier confirmed that the goal of U19 Vietnam is not only 1,2 victories, but also the competition for tickets to the FIFA U20 World Cup 2021 finals in Indonesia.
"My goal and the players are not only to win 1 match, but to win tickets to the FIFA U20 World Cup finals. U19 Vietnam needs to have 4 points, 5 points or even 6 points. So every match is equally important.
With this group I feel pretty good, and the other opponents will feel the same. Because they think meeting Vietnam or Laos will be easy. Anyway, this is a better match than Group B, where the presence of Korea and Japan.”
In order to help the players have the best adaptation to the time frame at the AFC U19 Championship 2020, coach Philippe Troussier decided to deploy the exercises for Vietnam U19 at 8:00pm every day.
It is expected that on the morning of June 23, Coach Philippe Troussier will conduct a test for players by practice match with Phu Dong Club. After this match, Mr. Philippe Troussier will also perform the first screening.
Some players will have to bid farewell to the team and instead will be selected players from clubs who do not qualify for the semi-finals at the National U19 finals in 2020.
The number of players leaving will be equal to the number of new players to join the team to make sure the team contains enough 30 players.
AFC U19 Championship 2020 will take place from October 14 to October 31 in Uzbekistan. 16 teams for the final round were divided into 4 groups. At the end of the group stage, the top 2 teams in each group will be selected to advance to the quarterfinals.
The top 4 best teams of AFC U19 Championship 2020 will join Indonesia in the U20 World Cup 2021. In the case of Indonesia reaching the semi-finals, the losing teams in the quarterfinals will play the play-off to compete for the remaining slot.
