Recently, the Malaysian Football Association said it is considering plans to cancel the rest of the 2020 season because of COVID-19.

The Malaysian league (M-League) has been postponed since March 16 due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. FAM is still trying to come up with solutions for the M-League to return if the Covid-19 epidemic is well controlled.

However, the Malaysian league is still at risk of canceling the remaining matches of this season, as the country's government could ban crowds for six months after lifting the travel restriction order March.

FAM President Datuk Hamidin Amin said: “We discussed many possibilities. The announcement to cancel the season, shorten the tournament time is also the options that we are looking forward to."

If the M-League is canceled then this is very bad news for coach Tan Cheng Hoe. Malaysia is having a great opportunity for the first time to advance to the final qualifying round of a World Cup. Currently, they are ranked 2nd in Group G and only 2 points behind Vietnam.

The cancellation of the domestic tournament will leave the Malaysian players playing for seven months before entering the Asia 2022 World Cup qualifiers. This will seriously affect the performance of Malaysian players before entering the upcoming important tournaments.

Previously, coach Tan Cheng Hoe had confessed that he wanted Malaysia to focus and play in friendly matches in June. However, given the current situation, perhaps his plan will also be canceled.
