Coach Park Hang-seo faces the risk of losing up to half of Vietnam's squad in the AFF Cup 2020.

Nguyen Anh Duc scored the golden goal for Vietnam in the final round of the AFF Cup 2018, thereby helping 'Golden Dragon' return to the No. 1 position in Southeast Asia football after 10 years of waiting. Immediately after that title, the 34-year-old striker announced his retirement from the national team and left a huge gap in the leading striker position.

Not only losing Nguyen Anh Duc, Park Hang-seo also faces the risk of losing up to half of squad at the AFF Suzuki Cup 2020. This will make the Vietnamese team face many difficulties in successfully defending the championship.

'Steel shield' Do Duy Manh will definitely not be able to attend the AFF Cup 2020, the midfielder suffered a broken ligament injury in the national Super Cup match.  It is expected that the central defender of Hanoi FC will return to the pitch by January 2021.

Duy Manh, Anh Duc certainly do not attend the AFF Cup 2020.

Park Hang-seo may lose 2 more pillars, Doan Van Hau and Dang Van Lam. Specifically, Thai League 2020 determines the match coinciding with the AFF Cup. While the highest-level regional football tournament is not in the FIFA Days system, Muangthong Utd has a reason not to return Van Lam to the national team.

Similarly, Doan Van Hau is likely to be extended by 1 season to SC Heerenveen. Coach Johnny Jansen was not happy when the defender attended the SEA Games, so the strategist will definitely refuse to give him the upcoming AFF Cup.

In addition, the Vietnamese team has 3 other players who are practicing injury recovery at PVF Center: Tran Dinh Trong, Luong Xuan Truong and Nguyen Huy Hung. All 3 are determined to return before the AFF Cup 2020. However, no one is sure they will regain their form and fitness before Vietnam embarks on the journey to defend the championship.

Not to mention Park Hang-seo’s side will compete in the remaining 3 matches of the 2022 World Cup Qualification in October 10-11. We need to go all out to protect the top of Group G and a ticket to the final qualifying round. Korean authorities will have to calculate to ensure enough personnel for both very important campaigns of Vietnam.
