Gotoku Sakai was hospitalized due to high fever and was the first Japanese player to be infected by Covid-19.

Gotoku Sakai is a player who attended the 2014 and 2018 World Cups in the Japan national team shirt. He plays for Vissel Kobe Club in J-League 1, playing along side former Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta.

Gotoku Sakai was hospitalized with symptoms of high fever, sore throat, loss of smell ... After the test, doctors determined Sakai had Covid-19. He was the first Japanese player to be positive for this virus.

Gotoku Sakai, 29, started to play for Japan from 2012, he was named on the list of 23 players to Russia for the 2018 FIFA World Cup by coach Akira Nishino.

Gotoku Sakai was the first Japanese player to be infected with Covid-19.

Earlier, the president of the Japan Football Association - Mr. Kozo Tashima was also infected  with Covid-19 on March 17. Mr. Kozo Tashima holds high positions in FIFA Council, Vice Chairman of Japan Olympic Committee (JOC).

Between February and early March, Mr. Tashima traveled to England, the Netherlands and the United States to attend meetings.

Before the complicated situation of the Covid-19 epidemic, the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games was officially postponed. On March 30, the executive committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced the timing of the tournament.
